Letterkenny is the largest town in Co. Donegal and is situated on a hillside by the River Swilly.

Letterkenny’s Mainstreet, just minutes’ walk from the Mount Errigal Hotel is the longest street in Ireland.

Letterkenny has many Public Monuments scattered throughout the town.

Some of these include:
The Polestar monument is situated on the Port Bridge Roundabout, right beside the Hotel. The monument is made from 104 timber poles and measures 12 metres high. The shape of the monument outlines a boat as well as having a train track theme to commemorate the trade and goods transported through the town by boat and rail which has contributed to the town’s development.
The Workers monument made from stainless steel and stone is located at the Dry Arch Roundabout and commemorates the men who worked on building the original bridge and train track at the Dry Arch.

The Rabble Children located in Market Square represents the hiring fairs where children between the ages of 11 and 16 were leased out for six month periods to wealthy farmers.

The Chair also located in Market Square and has been present since its first appearance in the 2005 Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann. Two more chairs have been added in the years that followed.

DONEGAL BEACHES

Donegal is home to plenty of award winning beaches.

Some of which include:

Bundoran Beach located in Donegal is a resort town which includes Water world and a funfair. It is a sandy beach facing Donegal Bay and the Atlantic bounded on the North and South by rocks and on the east by the promenade roadway. It is popular with surfers. Stay at our sister hotel the Allingham Arms Hotel.

Fintra Beach is located to the south west coast of Donegal. Fintra is a sheltered sandy beach that receives large numbers of day trippers during the summer months and is also enjoyed by the local community. 

Killahoey Beach located in Donegal is more commonly known as Dunfanaghy beach.

Marble Hill and Breaghy Head is an extensive sandy beach in a rural environment. The dunes have many flowers and bird species and are one of the last areas in Ireland where you may hear a Corncake calling. This beach is located 22 miles from the hotel.

Murvagh Beach is situated on the south coast of Donegal.
An extensive sandy beach, it is calm and sheltered.

Portnoo (Narin) Beach located in Donegal. An extensive sandy beach in a rural environment.

Portsalon Beach is a clean, safe and speculator sandy beach that slopes towards the Atlantic Ocean. This blue flag beach is a popular choice for families & holiday makers and is located 20 miles from the hotel. Portsalon beach was once voted the second most beautiful beach in the world.

Rathmullan Beach has also a blue flag and located just 14 miles from the hotel.
Rossnowlagh Beach is regarded by many as the most scenic and dramatic beach in the whole northwest. The beach is most popular for all kinds of water sports, board sailing, surfing and water skiing. The magnificent beach provides ideal conditions for safe bathing with lifeguard patrols.

BOWLING IN LETTERKENNY

Arena 7 Bowling alley is located just minutes walk from the hotel. The state of the art facilities consists of 10 bowling lanes with automatic scoring. All lanes are wheelchair accessible and bumpers or ramps to help children participate are available upon request.

GOLFING IN DONEGAL

Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club

This course offers a challenge of all standards. 18 holes set in the Finn Valley Tree Lines Park Land with its feature hole 16th set on the shore of Lough Alan.

Ballyliffin Golf Club

Ireland's most 'northerly' club was founded in 1947. The Ballyliffin Golf Course is famous for its par 3 fifth hole. This newly designed Glashedy (Craddock and Ruddy) links course provides the average golfer with a very fair test of ability amid the rolling sand dunes and spectacular scenery of the Inishowen Peninsula. The par 3 seventh hole is played from the top of the sand dune to a green guarded by bunkers on three sides and a lake on the other.

Bundoran Golf Club

Founded in 1894 Bundoran Golf Course was originally designed by an ancient course designer GL Ballie. The first President of the Club was the Duke of Abercorn. The course was re-designed by six times British Open Champion in 1927. The great Christy O’Connor was professional at Bundoran from 1951 to 1957.

Cruit Island Golf Club

Cruit Island Golf Club is a nine-hole links golf course set on the end of a peninsula.

Donegal Golf Club

Donegal Golf Club popularly referred to from time to time as Murvagh, is situated on the beautiful Murvagh Peninsula in Donegal Bay.

Greencastle Golf Club

Greencastle Golf Club is a members owned eighteen hole course on the banks of, and superb views across, Lough Foyle. It is based in the north of the Inishowen peninsula in County Donegal. The club was founded in 1892 as a nine hole course and during its centenary year opened a further nine, very challenging holes.

Letterkenny Golf Club

Is one of the most scenic parkland courses in the North West. Situated in a parkland setting, bordering on the shore of the Lough Swilly, the course was originally carved out of natural woodlands. Many of its 18 holes enjoy spectacular views of Lough Swilly. The redeveloped course includes many new features – such as lakes, mounding, greens and bunkers.

Narin and Portnoo Golf Club

Beautifully located on Gweebarra bay, the course is playable all the year round.

North West Golf Club

Lying between beautiful Lough Swilly and Mouldy Mountain, North West Golf Club has been called 'the St.Andrews of Ireland'.

Otway Golf Club

Otway Golf Club was founded as far back as 1893, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in the Republic of Ireland. As the history books tell us, the club was very difficult to get to and although somewhat out of the way this little gem is well worth a visit.

Portsalon Golf Club

At Portsalon Golf Club one can appreciate the Donegal’s Fanad Peninsula and the beaches of Ballymastocker Bay.

Rosapenna Golf Club

Rosapenna Golf Club offers both golfers and spectators the unparalleled views of the Sheephaven and Mulroy bays and the highlands of Donegal.

Errigal Mountain is the tallest peak of the Derryveagh Mountains in the Northwest of Ireland with a height of 749 metres. Errigal is also the most southern, steepest and highest of the mountain chain, called the "Seven Sisters" by locals:

PARKS IN LETTERKENNY

Letterkenny Town Park

Is the largest public park in Letterkenny and is laid out with a herb garden, flower beds, mature and new trees, an orchard area, playing areas, bowling green, walks and playgrounds. This park is located approx 10mins walk from the Mount Errigal Hotel.

Ballymacool Park

This 20 acre park consists of multi use games area, childrens play area, 44 car parking spaces together with park furniture, lighting and seating. This park is located approx 5mins drive from the Mount Errigal Hotel.
